Here and Now and The People's Wall

Friday 4th -  Saturday 26th May

Exhibition Preview - Saturday 5th May - 5.00-8.00pm All Welcome!

The Exhibition

As part of Artweeks across Oxfordshire, Arts at the Old Fire Station will present an exhibition of photography by the people of Oxford, focusing on the city in which they live. Run in conjunction with The Caravan Gallery, O3 Gallery, Oxford Castle Quarter, Crisis Skylight, Grandpont Children’s Centre and The Redbridge Travellers Women's Group, the exhibition, entitled Here & Now will take the form of a free competition and is open to anyone living in Oxford to submit their photos for selection. Our intention is to create a snapshot of the reality of living in our wonderful city that might be at odds with the romanticised idea that the world has of Oxford.

The People's Wall

Did you miss the Here and Now Competition or photography not your thing? Still want to be involved? Well here’s your chance! Gallery at the Old Fire Station bring you to the People’s Wall. We want residents from across Oxfordshire to let us know what Oxford means to them. We’re calling out for everyone to drop into the Old Fire Station, bring along something that represents their Oxford and add it to the People’s Wall in the Shop which will gradually develop throughout the duration of the exhibition.. Whether this is a photo, a piece of writing or an object it’s up to you – it’s your wall about your Oxford.

We'll be kicking this off at the opening event, so make sure you bring your piece of Oxford with you! Tell you're coming and let us know what you're going to add by joining the Facebook Event for The People's Wall

All is Not Lost - James Green

Friday 8th - Friday 29th June

All is Not Lost brings together a group of new works by artist, James Green. The exhibition explores concepts such as failure, loss and its potential for change. Through the use of printmaking, sculpture and moving image, the show invites the viewer to experience how images and objects relate both formally and conceptually.

‘It is both a pessimistic and optimistic show. In that imagery and objects are either destroyed or have had their function taken away. However, there is this need to try and fix things. In doing this, we encounter works which are as much about new beginnings as they are about endings’.

The exhibition in its entirety shows how objects and images transform – how one material can echo another. Each individual work should therefore be considered a fragment of a larger whole. Central to this is Green’s engagement with both materials and the process of making. By constructing varied and continuous connections between the works, Green wants us to leave with the thought; All is Not Lost.
